Books discussed at Canberra UX Meetup 29 July 2016

Here are some of the things covered that I can remember.

Hugh gave us a nice introduction to
The design of everyday things | by Don Norman

Sharon (Smith) introduced to Steve Krug's great primer:
Don't make me think (revisited 3rd ed.)

Sharon also brought along one of the classics on sketching UX:
Sketching User Experiences: Getting the Design Right and the Right Design by Bill Buxton

Sally provided great support with venue and introduced us to Gerry McGovern's
The Stranger's Long Neck: How to Deliver What Your Customers Really Want Online

I would also highly recommend Gerry McGovern's weekly article on his blog:
New Thinking, articles | Gerry McGovern

and also Sally provide a look at one of the 'lean' series of books that Alex was interested in. I can't quite recall which one if was but think it was this one.
UX for Lean Startups: Faster, Smarter User Experience Research and Design by Laura Klein

Sayuri introduced us to Service Design and blue prints by way of
Service Design: From Insight to Implementation by Andy Polaine, Lavrans Løvlie, and Ben Reason

Rosa mentioned that good depth on the domain of information architecture was provided by the Oreilly work on the subject. Not sure what edition but the 4th edition looks fairly new.
Information Architecture: For the Web and Beyond 4th Edition by Louis Rosenfeld, Peter Morville, and Jose Arango

Sharon (Doig) also talked about information architecture and I think she was referring to this work.
Pervasive Information Architecture: Designing Cross-Channel User Experiences by Andrea Resmini and Luca Rosati

I brought along
Evil by Design: Interaction Design to Lead Us into Temptation by Chris Nodder

Also has a good book website, covers the 57 persuasive design patterns covered by the door, I particularly like the ones called 'foot in door' and 'foot in face'.

I also mentioned the 'core model' for content strategy as described by Ida Aalen here in A List Apart. This link is for Sharon Smith who expressed an interest in this:
The core model designing inside out for better results | A List Apart, Ida Aalen, Jan. 2016

Also if you are looking at getting any of these works I find Booko a useful shopping comparison site for books.
